چکیده
In many cases, optimal operation for a plant is the same as maximum throughput. In this case a rigorous model for the plant is not necessary if we are able to identify the bottleneck. Optimal operation is the same as maximum throughput in the bottleneck. If the bottleneck does not move, this can be realized with singleloop controller from the throughput manipulator to the bottleneck. However, if the bottleneck moves, single-loop control would require reassignment of loops which is undesirable. A better approach is then to use a multivariable coordinator controller since input and output constrains are directly included in the problem formulation. Copyright c ©2007 IFAC

8th International IFAC Symposium on Dynamics and Control of Process Systems CONTROLLED VARIABLES SELECTION FOR A BIOLOGICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS
This paper considers control structure selection for a biological wastewater treatment process, with emphasis on identifying controlled variables that contribute to minimize economic costs. This is achieved according to the selfoptimizing procedure proposed by Skogestad (2000). The aim is to demonstrate how, with simple considerations on the control structure design, the efficiency of a wastewa...

A nonlinear bounded PI control for inventory level regulation, and for production and incoming rate synchronization in linear dynamic supply chains is proposed. Control boundedness is required to satisfy physical and operational limitations. The control varies and synchronizes the production and incoming rates while regulating the inventory levels. The dynamic models allow reckoning multi-produ...
متن کامل8th International IFAC Symposium on Dynamics and Control of Process Systems IMPLEMENTATION OF OPTIMAL OPERATION USING OFF-LINE COMPUTATIONS
The computational effort involved in the solution of real-time optimization problems can be very demanding. Hence, simple but effective implementation of optimal policies are attractive. The main idea is to use off-line calculations and analysis to determine the structure and properties of the optimal solution. This will be used to determine alternate representations of the optimal solution tha...
متن کامل8th International IFAC Symposium on Dynamics and Control of Process Systems DESIGN OF AN INTERVAL OBSERVER FOR EXOTHERMIC FED-BATCH PROCESSES
This paper proposes an interval observer for continuous or fed-batch chemical reactors with uncertainties related to both the heat exchange coefficient and the kinetics. The interval observer provides an upper and a lower bound of the state given bounds for the uncertain parameters. The underand over-estimators are state observers for the non-linear reactor model with two positive tuning parame...
